Episode 164: No One Dies Alone

Picture
The fear of dying alone is not uncommon. In fact, the urban dictionary recently coined the term "monatophobia" or "fear of dying alone." But what if someone was there to ensure that no one had to face their final moments in solitude? Dr. Andy Shen helped found the Caring Companions Program, originally called No One Dies Alone. This Program is made up of trained volunteers who sit with patients in their final hours. They offer a hand to hold, a gentle voice, and, at times, simply the quiet comfort of companionship. Sia Presser helps share this story.

What would it be like growing up, moving from military base to military base, state to state, every 3-4 years? How would it affect an individual’s self confidence, social life, mental health and education? What if your military dad had obligations to defend this country that kept him away for weeks to months at a time? I’m Sia Presser, and to find the answers to these questions, I spoke to one of our own high school students who shared with us her story.
